The latest news we have is always to be found in the Blog, to post news updates we need to fire up the stove and get out some blacksmith tools then hammer the article into shape in html then upload to the server. In order to keep ontop of changes and get the news out there we're using our blog that can be updated from mobile phones whilst out on the hills if we need get fresh news out. For the latest news until we get our Joomla site on the road please always check out blog pages when visiting this site.

News for 2011

'Bendromach Deg yn Llandegla 2011' The well respected Scottish promoters No Fuss Events this year are spoiling riders south of the Border by venturing south to Coed Llandegla on 20 August to introduce us to their 10 Hour MTB Team marathons that have now gone from cult to national institutions in the Scottish MTB Calender. Their website is here but any updated news here will be posted on our Blog as it occurs.

'Great Holiday Ideas'
1 -
Looking for a MTB related break and fancy something with a bit of competion and being in the company of mtb riders, checkout 13 - 20 August the MTB Trans Wales 2011 run by our freinds over at MTB Marathons with a solid and succesful career racing and running the MTB Marathon Challenge series, John Lloyd uses his great knowledge of Central Wales to devise challenging daily routes for a week linking popular trail centres of Wales and adding a few special stage timed sections to spice up the occaision.

2 - For a nice Autumn long weekend break that is out of the ordinary turn to the Continent and try the EuskadiExtrem 2011 held in the Basque Autonomous Region of Spain on 8 & 9th October. A whole weekend of MTB event in the form of the UK's MTB Marathon but because of Spanish laws the event is able to be run as a race. We'll try and get a translation of the Spanish sorted shortly.

'Chain Reaction Cycles Marathon Series 2011' No prizes for guessing where many local MTB riders can be found on 18th September. The MTB Marathon again returns to Ruthin for the big marathon challenge ride on the sunday and taking advantage of the darkening nights the much enjoyed nocturnal Exposure Lights Big Night Out event on Saturday night returns.

'Extreme Gravity happenings' North Wales is not just an xc paradise it is increasingly being recognised for exceptional gravity disciplines of MTB. Home for some of the UK's earliest dedicated Downhill races it now hosts regular uplift days at Llangollen, Moelfre, Caersws, and the new gem Nant Gwytherin. Already full and no entries left but a fantastic opportunity to see up to half of the worlds top 20 Dowhill riders will be the British Cycling Downhill National Championships being held at Llangollen 23/24 July this year

Not only do we now have DH venues but on the back of BMX then 4x the area is seeing more pump tracks. These small tracks feature big jumps and are ridden without pedalling to develop body skills in manoevering a bike. For the first year the National 4X series organisers are putting on a mini national Pump Track series which is goign to visit the Coed Llandegla Pump track in July. No specialist bikes needed just a simple hard tail with as few gears as possible and lower that saddle.

2007 see's the first time the MTB World Championships to be held in the UK since the first ever event that got official billing as World Champs was held at Durango in Colorado in 1991. The highlight of the MTB racing year it's is not an event to be missed for any mountain biker and to have it here is a major feat for the organisers Rare Management. NWMBA think this is such a major event in the UK this decade for mountain bikers, and given the Olympic MTB race will be held in a flat town park in Essex , we don't think it should be missed ,check out this World Champs promo trailer.
In order to ensure as many can enjoy it as possible the club is considering organising a weeks trip to the Fort William area, and will hopefully include a chance to ride the xc course, pick up the key qualifiers and finals for the Cross Country, 4Cross, and Downhill as well as soaking up the post event parties and fitting in some classic Scottish Wilderness guided rides aroudn the northen Scotland area as well as forest trails such as Laggan Wolftraxx and Aviemore. These routes used by NWMBA as part of the course for the popular Merida MTB marathon event based at Ruthin will now be available year round for the next 10 years for any cyclist or horse rider who fancies a new view the routes are challenging single track and not suited to anything less than a good sturdy mountain bike... leave your Dawes Galaxy tourer at home.. more details

One Planet Adventure: Part club sponsors based at the Visitor Centre at Coed Llandegla have been busy. They are now stocking the very tasty Cove bikes, which of course all will know is a brand uniquely associated with all things gnarly and sick that come from the North Shore of Vancouver, British Columbia. Made by the famous YESS Canadian BMX factory, they are designed by the Cove Bike Shop at Deep Cove right in the heart of the North Shore famous for its er wooden structures and near impossible riding conditions... This range of bespoke hardcore enthusiast bikes of course very nicely compliment the existing shop range of Kona which covers everything a rider needs from the humble kiddies street bike right up to the record breaking 134'ft jumping Stab Supreme. They have also been appointed a Hope technical centre to add to the same for Fibrax making them a very good Choice to get your brakes looked at. They are now stockists for prime canadian equipment in the shape of Race Face Components, clothing , Body Armour, SDG saddles. Latest software signing is Sombrio the clothing made by freeride lone wolf Dave Watson and worn by many of the best of the showboating dirt jumpers including Cove's great young star rider Gulevich

For more details see Glyn Rhonwy Press Release (32k pdf)

Llandegla: news in that Coed Llandegla has now secured a further grant funding to extend the trails which along with on going improvement and repair of the existing trails means the venue just keeps getting better and better.... On Feb 02 2006 on a frozen day Jason Rennie riding a team Kona Stab Supreme downhill bike assisted by a tow from a Motocross bike set a new world record for a distance jump by a bycycle. Wow what a Merida 2005, we were nervous as the new route went through a very sensitive village to avoid last years bottleneck after the start and required some road closures but the climb went better than planned no blockages and those who wanted to ride did. The riders comments afterwards were radiant like their smiles despite scenes of incredible pain as cramping riders crashed on the finish line..check out the racingzone for some more details and results. The 2006 event is already booked and is the 16/17th September and again starts at Cae Ddol in Ruthin. The new weekend will feature not only the marathon but CycleActive will be running mtb skills sessions on the saturday. If you want to develop your bike handling skills, improving control, balance and reactions then sign up for a 30 minute ‘Trials to Trails’ session. If you want to get out for some more practical, on-the-trail training then join one of the ‘Skills Development Rides’ at Coed Llandegla, which usually last between one and two hours, depending upon the riders and their needs. They’ll also be running a drop in ‘Bike Setup Clinic’ to help ensure that rider and machine are matched up correctly and ready for the next day.
On Sunday the focus is on families and fun. There will be skills instruction for kids: they can try the latest Merida bikes on the ‘CycleActive Junior Skills Track’ and there’ll be lots of chances for less experienced adults to develop their riding too. Also a new 25 km route for those not quite with the patience for the big numbers.

News for local downhillers is that there is now a new club set up in North Wales aimed solely for gravity chasing descenders. The Foel Down Hill Riders (FDHR) is not only is a gathering of like minded souls they also have a great new site at Foel Gasnach, Clocaenog Forest with official support from the Forest Enterprise to build downhill dedicated courses, with two already built and a third in progress, they will be having uplift facilities and possibly will hold a race this year. For further details check out their excellent new FoelDHRacing web site.

How did we ever manage to find the great places we ride around the UK before the internet. The club joined in the party in 1996 and has helped riders find the best places to ride in our area. The easy of publishing on the web however has a downside as some riders now maintain sites posting routes that do not follow legitimate routes and often the promotion increases their use undermining the continued development of quality bike routes in the area. We are hearing unauthorised riding in the Alvie Estate in the Cairngorms is not only stopping the racing there but also holding up trail development and local riders are pleading to all those doing it to back off for a bit. If you are looking to find new places to ride we are updating our links page to give the details of web sites where legitimate and good rides can be found to help simplify your planning that great weekend giving local contacts so you can be steered to the best routes

Don't forget to check out the latest racing news there is a lot going on in 2005.... don't miss it, all details of our events will be posted as soon as we can, latest results for Clocaenog TrailQuest check our RacingZone pages - Coed Llandegla WCU National XC championships.

Those nice folks at BikeFax, launched there excellent new guide to North East Wales at the Ruthin Merida, they took time out to say hi and that they are getting so busy they need an extra member of staff thanks to the North Wales Mountain Biking Boom. They are looking for an IT specialist with web design skills so if you think that is you and this is the job of a lifetime check out the details we have posted here on our forum

Nice to see Coed Llandegla win three of the Forestry Commissions 'Woods for Wales Award' 2005

A few new things to check out on the site.. Our video collection slowly expands.. no mad cap lunacy. .a trailer for the Ruthin MTB Mountain Challenge this year hosted by the Merida MTB Marathon. Also the club helmet cam has been out on the head of Jim at Coed Llandegla so you can see his first effort at being camera man on a part of the new Dragon (Red) Trail ( ED. a giraffe's eye view then). Welsh Tourist Board TV adverts to promote getting sweaty if not outright dirty in Wales.

With increasing development of mtb routes and centres around the north Wales area we will try to pull these into a feature this year and any comments from riders for inclusions of likes or dislikes are welcome. Also in response to many e-mails we have a new Rail2trail feature with information for those wanting to get ot the Welsh MTB Trail centres by train

The first feature we have is for the soon to be opened Mountain Bike Centre at Coed Llandegla, just in case our non welsh speakers wonder if it is anywhere near Llandegla Forest.. it's the same place

The club had a meeting with the new operators of the MTB Centre being developed at Llandegla Forest and a general principal was agreed to maintain our events there. It is more likely we may try to establish a regular time trial series which will make a lower impact on the forest and opens opportunity to have team orientated and a possible evening series. Anybody with any idea of a new format for events please let us know. We are also looking for somebody to step forward to help plan this years Merida route for Ruthin and link to MTB Marathon the organiser, the existing person is unable to do so this year. With another great year in the bag for 2004 The 3rd round of the Merida 100 MTB challenge in September was a great success with nearly 1100 riders starting in Ruthin. A five hour MTB challenge event in Clocaenog Forest in April called the Cyffyliog Ride helped raise funds for charity whilst having a good ride. This also has the making of being a classic Enduro event in the future those that missed should try to fit it into next years calender.more details on our racing page>>>>

We recently encountered some of our material in use elsewhere and appearing to be the work of others. The basic rule is everything here is "copyright of NWMBA" and it's use is controlled by us unless associated information says otherwise. We want to be flexible and are happy if local businesses, wishing to promote local mountain biking opportunities on their own web site, use our material. Before doing so you must submit a written request (email will do) indicating the purpose of your site and how you intend to use our resources. Usually we will agree, all we require is a statement alongside the images or material indicating that it was provided by NWMBA and a link to our site is provided. In most cases we do not charge for the use however donations to the club are welcome which will be put towards event prizes. We will almost certainly not allow any of our material to be used in any way which we feel is not condusive with promoting the interests or image of Mountain Biking , NWMBA or North Wales.
