Starting with a hard climb over the track known locally as the Piggeries, it skirted around Llanarmon Yn Ial to reach Nercwys Forest where the route followed a permissive route through a few woods before passing Llanferres and then climbing up to Moel Famau Forest. Here the 50k course headed via the Clwyd Gate back to Ruthin, The 100k riders had to face the hills of hell as they rode through the forest and country park heading towards along rights of way and courtesy paths obtained especially for the event across private land towards Moel Arthur then a lap of Moel Arthur to head back above Cilcain to Moel Famau Forest then following the 50k route back into Ruthin.
In order to ensure the event was both a challenge and safe , we secured permission from local landowners to use private paths and tracks to link rights of way and avoiding using a number of busy public roads. We welcome riders of the Kona event to return to ride the area but please do not follow the course where it is not a right of way in order to respect the landowners generocity all of whom indicated they would be willing to give permission for use of the paths for further events if they did not fins the paths coming into regular use. Plans for a future MTB Marathon are based on our ability to negotiate to increase the distance ridden 'off road' which will require more private routes..
